    WTM: Perpustakaan Nasional

Welcome to Weekend Tanpa Mall (WTM) series!

    Rainbow Island

Who says Jakarta does not have decent beaches? It has, but it would take one boat away… to Pulau Seribu (thousands islands). After 4 years ago visited Harapan Island, this time I had a chance to visit another island in Pulau Seribu called Pelangi Island (pelangi means rainbow). Not like Harapan Island which is a populated island, Pelangi Island is a resort. Most islands that can be visited in Pulau Seribu are resort islands, except Harapan, Kelapa, Pari, Pramuka and Tidung Islands. I went to Pelangi Island with my office colleague, just a small group of 15 people. We booked 2 days 1 night package with Raja-Wisata.com. They are very friendly, helpful…

    Alive Museum Ancol

Like I said in this post, I LOOOOVE trick arts. When I found out there was another trick art exhibition in Jakarta, I was so excited, and directly purchased the tickets. It is called Alive Museum, which is originated from Korea. It already has 14 branches in and out of Korea including China, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, and now in Jakarta, Indonesia, yay! I guess this exhibition is a permanent one, opened since 30 October 2015 and located in Ancol Beach City Mall 3rd floor. This attraction contains 2 parts: Alive Museum which displays interactive optical illusion arts and paintings, and Alive Star which displays wax figures of famous people. Each…

    Sunday Morning Walk: Setu Babakan

When we all could wake up early on Sunday morning, and mostly could because our baby daughter wakes up early everyday including Sunday T_T, I’d like to spend the morning by walking outside in some outdoor spaces. From the nearby place like Banjir Kanal Timur (BKT) and Taman Tebet, until further place like Ancol. Last Sunday Morning we went to Setu Babakan in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. Using JORR (Jakarta Outer Ring Road) toll, the place could be reached within 30minutes only from my house by car. If you want to use public transport, you could take the train until Lenteng Agung train station then take blue angkot no.58, or you…

    Uber Has Arrived in Jakarta

Last Friday afternoon it was raining hard in Jakarta. As usual, Jakarta Friday night + (after) raining = hell traffic jam. When I got out from office to go home, I found a long queue of about 20 people in Blue Bird taxi stand in front of my office building. I had no choice other than joining the line and waiting patiently, because my husband couldn’t pick me up that day, taking buses would be unbearably inconvenient, and flagging non Blue Bird taxi outside the queue would be a chaotic taxi war. With 20 people in front of me, I predicted I would finally get the taxi in 1 hour. Then I…

    Europe on Screen 2014

Ahh, Europe on Screen 2014 (EoS 2014) was over. This European film screening is definitely my favorite event of the year. This year they showed 71 movies all for free, for 9 days in 8 cities in Indonesia, including Jakarta. In Jakarta itself, there were 7 venues showing those movies. Of course I couldn’t watch all of them, because they were screened in the same time in different venues, and most movies were screened before 5pm on weekdays (during office hours). In fact, the total movies I could watch in EoS 2014 is only 14 movies. There were many other interesting movies in EoS 2014 I’d love to watch, so I…

    Tasting the Unique Indonesian Foods

Last week I went to Festival Jajanan Bango (FJB). It is Indonesian traditional culinary festival made by Bango, a local soy sauce brand from Unilever. FJB has been held every year since 8 years ago, but this is the first time I’ve been to this festival. After parked our car and paid no-receipt parking fee to the illegal parking man (this is so common if you visit a big event complex in Jakarta such as Gelora Bung Karno Senayan and Taman Impian Jaya Ancol, you have paid the legal parking fee on the entrance gate but you’d be asked for additional illegal fee inside the complex), we walked inside the festival…
